Enjoy the view on the pilgrimage route in the Salzkammergut

A beautiful view of Wolfgangsee can be enjoyed from the “Gschmo Platzl” high above the Falkenstein cliff. The dialect term from the Salzkammergut “Gschmo” describes a state of almost complete satisfaction. This also best describes the feeling at this view. To enjoy this, first go from St. Gilgen along the lakeshore path via the Seegasthaus Fürberg up to the Wolfgangsee viewpoint. After the Falkenstein chapel, descend to Ried and walk along the shore to the valley station of the Schafberg Railway.

Directions

From the St. Gilgen bus station, turn right after the post office and go to the Wolfgangsee shore. The path towards Fürberg is already signposted from the boat landing stage. Always along the shore, pass through the village past the rowing club, lawn area, and tennis court until the Mondseestraße branches off to Brunnwinkl. Here begins the beautiful St. Rupert pilgrimage route which leads to the Seegasthaus Fürberg. At the dressing cabins of the Fürberg outdoor pool, the forest road finally branches off to Falkenstein and now climbs steadily uphill. At the first junction, follow the path to the right to Scheffelblick. The path becomes rockier and leads up and down through the forest until the view of the lake opens up. Here you can wonderfully look back to St. Gilgen and up to Zwölferhorn. Continue on the marked path to the Falkenstein church. From the pilgrimage church, return along the path towards the east and descend along the pilgrimage route to Ried down to the lake. Continue along the lakeshore path to the valley station of the Schafberg Railway.
