Sun path from Goldegg-Weng to St. Veit

IDEAL FOR SUN-LOVING HIKERS WHO PARTICULARLY APPRECIATE THE POWER OF THE SUN DURING THE COOL TRANSITION PERIOD.

The high path from the Goldegg district of Weng to St. Veit runs almost continuously in the sun. The effect of the rays is particularly efficient and warming in the cool months when the sun is low, in the hot midsummer the refreshing forest is missing. Therefore, it is also well suited for winters with little or no snow, although two short, shaded ravines must be crossed on narrow paths. Otherwise, the route runs on cleared farm roads and farm driveways. Depending on fitness and trail conditions, various shorter or longer variants are possible. The regular bus connections from Schwarzach station to Goldegg are well linked with the train services, the same applies to the return journey from St. Veit.

Directions

From the Goldegg-Weng bus stop towards the church. Path 27 “St. Veit via Enkerbichl” branches off to the left and leads past Fuchslochbauer and a waterfall, steadily climbing 2 km to a fork. To the left is the longer variant via Hochleit`n Alm, shorter is the path straight ahead through the ravine. The path soon turns back into a driveway, which after 2 km downhill meets another fork in Viellehen. The short, unmarked route simply follows the road downhill and there branches off to the left via Urpass towards St. Veit (return option with bus 581). The 40-minute longer variant (path 27) leads uphill again about 100 meters elevation along the driveway to the last farm Rain, then crosses the deeply cut ravine in a wide right-hand bend. The path passes the turnoff for the prehistoric Sunnpau show mine (15 minutes walk). At the next curve there are again two options: either continue along the driveway to St. Veit (return option with bus 581 from St. Veit Urpass Brenner stop), or turn left following the forest path (path 26) in 45 minutes to the destination St. Veit, marketplace stop.
