From Muntigl over Bergheim and the Plainberg to Salzburg
A nice, all-weather suitable hike that is possible all year round.
The local historians derive Muntigl from the Romance word “Monticulu”, meaning a small mountain. The hill really exists and significant mid-Stone Age finds were made exactly there, indicating that the area was already settled 10,000 years ago. The Romans also liked the surroundings; from this time comes a magnificently equipped, 32 by 10 meter large estate in Kemating on the Plainberg. The perception of the Roman and pre-Roman monuments must take place in the mind, but the significance of the pilgrimage site Maria Plain is clearly visible and omnipresent through the magnificent basilica at the highest point of the Plainberg. Between all these imagined, long-past and actual cultural monuments moves the sunny walk, which will also bring much joy in winter on cleared paths.

Directions
From the local train stop Muntigl the route leads along the access road (ferry path) gently uphill, turns right at the next fork and follows the Mühlfeldweg to the outdoor pool "Bergxi". The Fischach is crossed over and the federal road is passed under; afterwards the path runs parallel to the B 168 to Bergheim. Past the parish church the path either leads up over the Plainberg to the baroque basilica, or the route stays below and, as the shortest variant, immediately after the power line turns right toward the farmstead group in Kemating. Along the access road (Plainbergweg), which follows a few meters later, it goes right down into the Itzling district to the Plainbrücke with the beautiful Nepomuk statue from the workshop of Josef Anton Pfaffinger (1684 – 1758). Either with the local train S 1 or with O-Bus line 6 (both stops "Plainbrücke") back to the city.
