Out of the fog up into the sun with views of Dachstein and Tennengebirge. The Rocherhöhe in Abtenau is a wonderful viewpoint. From May, two huts along the circular route invite you to stop for a break.

Directions
From the post office, walk a short way towards the market square and turn left into the first street. At the next fork, descend to the right over the driveway, cross the street and pass the Schwarzenbach settlement. After the Schwarzenbach, turn onto the forest path at the crossroads and follow the forest road to Unterberg. At the road, turn right past Burkhardgut and take the steep path into the forest at the signpost to the right. After a distinctive hairpin bend, you reach Seitenalm. Behind the unattended hut, the hiking trail continues to the right, first across the pasture, then through the forest to Hochsattel. Here, ascend the direct slightly steeper path to the Rocheralm hut. From there the path continues upwards in a curve to the summit cross at the sunspot. Descend the same way to Rocheralm and head south over the forest road down two hairpin bends to Rohrhofhütte. From there, one more hairpin bend leads back to Unternberg, where you join the path back to Abtenau.

Bus 170, S3, IC/EC to (H) Golling-Abtenau station. Change to bus 470 or bus 471 to (H) Abtenau town centre.
