From Schleedorf past the Egelseen and over the Buchberg to Mattsee
Focused watching on and beside the paths is required: first in the bird paradise Egelseen and then on the wild vegetable path, which has Buchberg as its destination.
The perhaps most visually intense time for this hike is spring and early summer. There are good chances of spotting the extremely rare Eurasian curlew, the pirouetting black-headed gull, and delicate vegetable plants which can then be processed into vitamin-rich dishes at home (of course, only the vegetables!). There is certainly no shortage of dandelions in this early growth phase; the meadows shine in the most beautiful sunny yellow. Viewed from Buchberg (801 m), the snow-covered Alpine peaks appear in the southern background – a picture of breathtaking beauty! But the grand finale in Mattsee with the idyllic bay, the castle hill and the magnificent early Gothic abbey church is a worthy conclusion to an extraordinarily varied hike.

Directions
The starting point is the bus stop Mölkham Schleedorf. The hamlet in the gently rolling landscape is quickly reached, the unfortunately very sparsely marked path then follows the access road towards Egelseen. At the last building with many prohibition signs, a short forest trail begins, then a meadow path leads between the Egelseen to the foot of the Buchberg. In front of the Gugelmoos farmstead, the route branches left and at the height of the striking solitary oak tree turns right. The now steeper rising “wild vegetable path” crosses the access road at the Gräbl parking bay and immediately merges back into the mixed forest. At the Wallmisch chapel, the best views open up across the Alps and to comfortable loungers; the summit lies only a few minutes above. From the fore-positioned viewing area, there is a better panoramic view and original play opportunities. The descent follows the ascent to the junction “Mattsee via Vogelweg”. After 1 km, the path meets a road fork at the Gaisberg settlement. The Vogelweg crosses, somewhat confusingly, straight ahead and can now no longer be missed until the Mattsee town area. The town centre bus stop is located in front of the abbey church.
