From Elsbethen to the Rauchenbühel hut on the Gaisberg
Varied city hike to the cozy Naturfreunde hut on the Gaisberg: great views and ideal for families too.
This hike starts at the Vorderfager car park and leads via well-marked paths to the Rauchenbühel hut. The ascent is steady but manageable for families. During the climb, there are repeatedly impressive views of the surrounding Salzburg and Berchtesgaden Alps. Especially the Untersberg and Watzmann provide a spectacular panorama. After about 1.5 to 2 hours, you reach the cozy Rauchenbühel hut, which is a real insider tip among locals. The hut invites you to a well-deserved rest with regional delicacies. For families, the hut also offers a small playground.
From here, you can either return the same way or climb the rather nearby Gaisberg summit. Those who hike up can comfortably take the bus back down.

This hike starts at the Raika in Elsbethen-Glasenbach and follows a well-marked path via Vorderfager through forests and alpine meadows. The steady but moderate ascent offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the view. After about 2 hours you reach the Rauchenbühel hut. Those who still have energy can climb the Gaisberg summit in another 60 minutes. The return trip is either on the same path or comfortably by bus from the Gaisberg summit into the valley.

Take trolleybus 7 or regional bus 160 to Elsbethen-Glasenbach.
Bus line 151 takes you back down to the valley from the Gaisberg summit.
