From Böckstein to Sportgastein
ALONG THE NASSFELDER ACHE ON OLD PATHS PAST ALMS AND IMPRESSIVE WATERFALLS INTO THE NASSFELD (SPORTGASTEIN).
At the starting point of the hike, in Alt-Böckstein, time seems to have stood still. Almost all buildings are related to the mining history of the valley. After a devastating avalanche in 1741, the responsible mining technicians of the Prince-Archbishopric decided to rebuild at the present location. All administrative, residential, and workshop buildings were planned according to functional aspects on the drawing board. Thus, a mining industry ensemble was created, which, in its museum-like uniqueness, can still be admired today. The end of the hike in Sportgastein is quite different. The original name Nassfeld is now rarely used, probably due to marketing strategies; the tourist development has led to major changes. In addition to the Goldbergbahn, the rich gastronomic offerings, and the large parking lot, there is also a well-functioning bus service that connects Bad Gastein station with Sportgastein every hour during the high season.

Directions
The starting point is the Böckstein bus stop, the old mining settlement is a few steps away on the opposite side of the creek. The path to Sportgastein briefly follows the access road, then turns right and leads downhill past the Evian spring, where the original mining settlement was located. After half an hour, the path reaches the two operated Astenalms (1,207 m) or passes above them. At the impressive Kesselfall, the service road crosses to the northern Achenseite over the so-called "Russian Bridge," built in the war year 1915. Quite different in character but no less impressive is the fine Schleierfall, which is soon followed by the Bärenfall. The route meets the power plant and follows the new Nassfeld road back to the parking lot for the last 10 minutes on foot. The bus stop is located next to the distinctive Garstenau aluminum sphere, which the Salzburg architect specially designed for Sportgastein and installed in 1972.
