Hairpin bend after hairpin bend into the high Alps: the Grossglockner High Alpine Road takes you right into the heart of the National Park – with views of Austria’s highest peak.

Here, the journey truly is the destination. Over 48 kilometres and 36 bends, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road winds its way from Fusch to Heiligenblut through the dramatic mountain scenery of the Hohe Tauern. With every metre gained in altitude, new panoramas unfold: rugged peaks, green valleys, alpine meadows and, finally, breathtaking views of the Grossglockner and the impressive Pasterze glacier.

Whether by car, motorbike or bus, you experience the high Alps up close. Numerous viewpoints invite you to stop and simply take it all in. At twelve themed experience areas along the route, you can delve deeper into the history of this remarkable road, discover alpine wildlife and plants, or explore fascinating natural phenomena. With a bit of luck, you might even spot ibex or marmots – part of the alpine “High Five”.

🦌 Tip! Right at the Ferleiten toll station, the Wild & Adventure Park Ferleiten is a great add-on, especially for families. The road is open during the summer season and is a true highlight for nature lovers, active explorers and anyone wanting to experience the mountains in an unforgettable way.
