Discover the New Hohe Tauern National Park Worlds The Hohe Tauern National Park is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes on Earth. The National Park Worlds in Mittersill have made it their mission to tell its history and the many stories it holds.
Visitors Become “Time Travelers” in the National Park Worlds
The National Park Worlds ignite a desire to explore the fascinating natural landscapes of the Hohe Tauern for oneself. At the same time, they allow visitors to journey with all their senses to places, eras, and realms that would otherwise remain hidden from human experience.
The new “Gallery of Life”, for example, takes visitors into the Untersulzbachtal wilderness area and offers breathtaking insights into this untouched piece of Earth, where no cultivation or development takes place. Stunning images spark the imagination, while river gravel and a stone slab covered with a mosaic of centuries-old lichens have made the journey from the wild to the exhibition.
In the “World of Glaciers”, a 6,000-year-old slice of Swiss pine reveals what the Pasterze Glacier looked like during the Neolithic era. Meanwhile, a replica of a marine reptile in the “Peaks from the Ocean Floor” exhibit shows that 150 million years ago, the Hohe Tauern region was once covered by a tropical sea. The “Glacier Friendship Book” introduces leading glacier researchers and their findings.
The “Water Realm” showcases the region’s rich water resources—with 500 mountain lakes, 800 moors, and countless streams. An impressive, oversized room installation takes visitors on the journey of a single drop of water through Hohe Tauern National Park.
The Hohe Tauern National Park Worlds in Mittersill are open 365 days a year. Tickets and time slots can be purchased or booked in advance through the online shop, making the experience a worthwhile visit in any weather. The National Park Worlds are an inclusive partner of the National Park Summer Card. Guided tours with National Park Rangers are available upon request and with prior reservation.
The tour concludes at the “National Park Shop,” where visitors can choose from a fine selection of regional products, gift ideas, and souvenirs. Also located under the same roof is the “Almaa” restaurant, where guests are treated to delicious regional dishes.
