In honor of JakobusThe parish and pilgrimage church of St. Jakob am Thurn in the municipality of Puch near Hallein is dedicated to St. James the Elder, one of Jesus’ most trusted disciples. The church was first mentioned in a document in 1238. It owes its present form to the great patron and feudal lord of Thurn Castle and Hofmark, Joseph Anton Count Plaz. In addition to the extension of the church, he was also responsible for the construction of the Loretto Chapel in 1754. In 1891, St. Jakob am Thurn was elevated to a parish and became part of the Hallein deanery.As early as the 14th century, the pilgrimage to St. James became increasingly important and the Brotherhood of St. James was founded in 1476. Between 1960 and 1963, the church was rebuilt and extended. In 2001, the decision was made to purchase a new organ from Metzler (Switzerland) and in 2008, extensive renovation work was completed inside and out. Above the main altar there is a small brass cartouche with the relic of the apostle and church patron in a richly decorated glass case. Another special feature is the small ivory statue of St. James the Elder, which can be admired at the altar of St. Joseph. In the Loreto Chapel, the black Loreto Mother of God, who was touched with the miraculous image in Italy, is venerated. Die Pfarr- und Wallfahrtskirche St. Jakob am Thurn in der Gemeinde Puch bei Hallein ist dem heiligen Jakobus dem Älteren geweiht, einem der vertrautesten Jünger Jesu. Bereits 1238 wurde die Kirche erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Ihre heutige Form verdankt sie dem großen Förder und Lehensherrn von Schloss und der Hofmark Thurn, Joseph Anton Graf Plaz. Neben der Erweiterung der Kirche geht auf ihn auch die Errichtung der Lorettokapelle im Jahr 1754 zurück. Bereits im Jahr 1891 wird St. Jakob am Thurn zur Pfarre erhoben und gehört dem Dekanat Hallein an.

Bereits im 14. Jahrhundert gewinnt die Jakobswallfahrt immer mehr an Bedeutung und 1476 wird die Jakobsbruderschaft wird gegründet.
In den Jahren 1960 bis 1963 kommt es zu einem Umbau der Kirche mit Erweiterungen. 2001 erentschloss man sich zur Anschaffung einer neuen Orgel der Firma Metzler (Schweiz) und im Jahr 2008 konnten die umfangreichen Renovierungsarbeiten innen und außen fertiggestellt werden.

Über dem Hauptaltar findet sich in einem reich verzierten Glasgehäuse eine kleine Messingkartusche mit der Reliquie des Apostels und Kirchenpatrons. Eine Besonderheit ist auch die kleine Elfenbeinstatue des heiligen Jakobus des Älteren, die am Josefsaltar zu bewundern ist.

In der Loreto-Kapelle wird die schwarze Loretomuttergottes, die mit dem Gnadenbild in Italien berührt worden war, verehrt. Zu ihren Füßen befindet sich das Grab von Johann Graf Plaz.
