Friedburg Castle Ruin
The remains of the Friedburg are located opposite the Hieburg high above the entrance to the Obersulzbach valley on a completely isolated steep cliff, which is only connected to the western side of the Rabenkopf by a narrow footpath. From the valley, the location looks like rather harmless, only on site one recognizes that the rock not only drops vertically, but even overhanging a good 60 metres to the north.
Today, one reaches the castle from the northeast by climbing steepy uphill at the edge of the rock fall. The terrain determines the ground plan of the castle. A rocky ridge about 10 metres wide and 60 metres long, which rises from east to west and then drops steeply towards the mountain.
It seems that only the eastern half of the rock was covered with buildings. The western half, which was about 10 metres higher, probably served as a kind of natural shield wall behind which the castle could hide itself.
