St. Nicholas Parish Church Dienten

The only two-aisled hall church in the entire Salzburger Land

The parish church of Dienten not only has a fantastic location on the Kirchbühel against the backdrop of the Hochkönig, its interior is also impressive. Especially the gothic star-rib vault from the time of its construction and the high altar by Benedikt Faistenberger (1660). The altar contains the Gothic statues of the church patron Saint Nicholas, as well as the holy bishops Rupertus and Erasmus. The mining saints Daniel and Barbara (Faistenberger 1660) on the altar right and left outside, as well as the large “sacrament tablet” by Wolfgang Zach on the right wall of the chancel, remind us of the great times of the Dientner iron mining. The two side altars are dedicated to the apostles Peter (with key) and Paul (with sword and book) (Faistenberger 1660). Already in the 12th century a Romanesque church building on the Kirchbühel. The present church was consecrated on June 12, 1505 by the Chiemsee bishop Nikolaus Kaps. The 500-year-old lime tree next to the church is a reminder of this. From 1999 to 2005 the parish church was renovated and solemnly reopened with the altar consecration by Archbishop Dr. Alois Kothgasser on July 10, 2005. The church is only open during church services.
