Vorderkaserklamm
The Vorderkaserklamm is 400 metres long and is located in the municipality of St. Martin bei Lofer.
The Vorderkaserklamm gorge between St. Martin and Weißbach (declared a natural monument in 1977) was first opened to visitors in 1882. 12,000 to 14,000 years ago, when the ice-age glaciers had melted away, the Ödenbach stream began to carve into the hard rock. (Around six millimetres per year). Today the gorge is already 400 metres long, 80 metres deep, up to six metres wide at the top and 80 centimetres narrow at the bottom. The extremely exciting path through the gorge leads over 51 footbridges and 35 stairs with a total of 373 steps.
The access road is easily accessible by car, bus or bicycle, and the entrance to the gorge is about 2.5 kilometres from the 311 federal road. The (hiking) trail leads through the Vorderkaser natural bathing area with idyllic natural bathing ponds and numerous barbecue areas.
Public transport
Take bus 260(timetable) to the bus stop Vorderkaserklamm. From the bus stop to the entrance of the gorge it is approx. 1 hour on foot.
