Roaring water, steep rock faces and fresh mountain air: in the Sigmund Thun Gorge, you experience the raw power of water step by step.

You hear the Kapruner Ache before you see it. Over 320 metres, the water has carved its way deep into solid rock, creating whirlpools, smooth rock walls and dramatic formations. Safe wooden walkways lead you through the gorge, bringing you close to the rushing water and the cool spray in the air.

Information panels along the path explain how the gorge was formed and reveal fascinating facts about the surrounding landscape. At the far end, the narrow canyon suddenly opens onto the idyllic Klammsee. Its clear, sometimes turquoise waters invite you to take a relaxed circular walk. A themed trail, playground, fitness area, Kneipp facility and the cosy Klammstüberl make this a perfect outing for families.

If you’re up for more of a challenge, the Bürgkogel trail climbs above the gorge, rewarding you with wide views over the Kaprun valley and leading to a site rich in history dating back to the Bronze Age (sturdy footwear and some mountain experiences are essential).

A place where nature, movement and history come together in an impressive way.
