Steinalm
The Steinalm is located at 1,268 meters above sea level in the beautiful Steinernes Meer near Saalfelden. It was built in 1869 and was owned by the church at that time.
Â
Through a barter deal, the Steinalm passed into the ownership of a cooperative consisting of 15 farmers from Saalfelden 100 years later. From that point on, the Steinalm was operated as a snack bar in addition to its alpine farming activities.
In the past, supplies and food were carried up by pack animals. Around 1990, a material cable car was built, which made managing the alpine pasture much easier.
Today, the Steinalm is a popular destination for day trips. Not only because of the breathtaking views it offers, but above all because of its idyllic location in the heart of the Steinernes Meer.
