Adventure mountain Naglköpfl

An exciting hike for the whole family at the foot of the Kitzbühel Alps from Walchen (Piesendorf) to Steindorf (Niedernsill).

The Naglköpfl (1,090 m) is not one of the very big mountains in Oberpinzgau, but in its own way still outstanding. This was also recognized 2100 years ago by the Celtic tribe of the Ambisonts, who established a significant high-altitude settlement here above the swampy valley floor. The clearly visible protective wall at the summit area still reminds of the early settlers today. In the meantime, the Naglköpfl has gained quite a bit: comfortable loungers, the Ambrosius chapel, a historic weather cross, and in winter the mountain turns into a small but fine family ski area. The Naglköpfl is also very suitable for a crossing between the municipalities of Piesendorf (Walchen district) and Niedernsill, which jointly manage the attractive recreational offerings.

Directions

From the bus stop or the slightly more distant Walchen train station, the path initially leads to the small filial church built in 1757. The signposted path to the Naglköpfl follows the stream path past the last houses and leads along the edge of the meadow onto a tractor path, from which shortly after a narrow meadow path branches off again. At the summit, beautiful resting places and a magnificent view of the peaks of the Hohe Tauern await. The descent passes the larch cross to the Ambrosius chapel and then turns left onto the path towards Steindorf-Niedernsill (path 6). Alternately over blooming summer meadows, then as a narrow forest path past ancient maple trees, the beautiful path reaches the district of Steindorf after about an hour. The bus stop is located at the roundabout on the federal road, the train station is five minutes further towards Niedernsill.
