End of winter in Obertauern

After the season ends in Obertauern, one last outing on the boards that mean the ski world.

The time window in Obertauern for the very last ski tours after the traditional season end on May 1st is not very large. But it pays off; the two important slopes at Zehnerkar (2196 m) and Seekareck (2160 m) still benefit for some time from fine grooming after the lifts close and are also ideal for ski touring on the piste thanks to their different orientations. The wide, not too steep slopes towards Seekareck face southeast and soon shine with firn in the morning sun, the north-facing, steeper Zehnerkar takes a little longer for the sticky spring snow. The best thing about the last tours in Obertauern is the excellent connection from Radstadt station with bus 280 to the Grünwaldkopfbahn stop (1665 m). Ideal is the bus departure from Radstadt at 7:38 and arrival in Obertauern at 8:02.  Less than 10 m from the stop, the adventure on the deserted slope can already begin.

Directions

From the Grünwaldbahn stop, you can choose between the steep, north-facing Zehnerkar slope on the right side or on the left with the ascent along the moderately steep, southeast-facing Grünwaldkopfbahn slope, which further up merges into the Seekareck slope up to the final Bergstation (2160 m). Another variant starting from the Grünwaldkopfbahn Bergstation (1970 m) is the slope partially branching off to the right of the Panoramabahn (2204 m). A steep section can be bypassed to the right via the service road. From both Bergstations, the respective peaks offer an alpine bonus if conditions are very good and completely safe: from the Panoramabahn Bergstation the Seekarspitze (2350 m) and from the Seekareckbahn Bergstation the Seekareck (2217 m). Descent as ascent and along the slopes.
