Enjoyment route to the Spielberg in the Krispl – Gaißau ski area

THE IDEAL SKI TOURING DESTINATION FOR IN-BETWEEN AND FOR ANY WEATHER CONDITION IS OPTIMALLY ACCESSIBLE BY BUS.

While most ski tourers in the Gaißau-Hintersee ski area head to the valley end to the valley station of the temporarily closed chairlift, bus users benefit from being able to start their ski tour already one stop earlier at Gaißau village center. The reward for 130 meters more ascent is wonderful, ideally inclined farmland meadows, which also lead the descent. This variant briefly crosses the piste in the upper part, before the ascent track turns left again at the height of the Spielbergalm (1,320 m) towards the gentle Spielberg summit (1,428 m). The Spielbergalm is open daily in winter under skiable conditions. The route is ideal for ski tour beginners.

Directions

Directly opposite the Gaißau village center bus stop, the steep Stampfbichlsteig trail branches off to the primary school. The 10-minute stairway path is almost always worn, a more comfortable variant is the access road that branches off 300 meters further south from the road towards the ski center. At the end of the access road, the ascent track begins, crossing the moderately steep farmland meadows in a southeast direction. At the last houses in the upper section of the meadows, a final farm driveway must be crossed, before the track continuing southeast leads into the uppermost corner. For a short section, the track follows the marked summer trail until on the right the ski slope and chairlift appear. Along this wide forest clearing, it takes 15 minutes to reach the Spielbergalm; shortly before, a track usually branches off to the left onto the Spielberg ridge. Over the moderately steep, wide ridge, the last section leads in 20 minutes to the inconspicuous summit. Descent is the same as ascent, or on the occasionally groomed piste down to the chairlift valley station (Gaißau Spielbergalm lift bus stop).
