From Obergnigl to the Guggenthal Advent

The Guggenthaler chapel at the northern foot of the Gaisberg is already visible, but there is still a ditch in between.

From Obergnigl to the Guggenthal Advent

During the pre-Christmas season, the hike from the city of Salzburg over the sunny Heuberg to the Advent market at the Guggenthaler Kircherl is a particularly warming experience.

The neo-Gothic church in Guggenthal is a worthwhile destination at any time of year, but especially romantic is the picturesque ensemble around Advent, when the small market under the lime tree comes alive. The church in its current form was planned by the well-known construction company Ceconi on behalf of the Weikl family, who acquired the neighboring estate in 1861 and established a respected brewery there. Special attention in the radiant church interior deserves the Gothic pulpit made of Adnet marble, which was brought here from the cathedral that burned down in 1598. In contrast to the extensively renovated church, the rest of the property still lies in a fairy-tale slumber. A strong sign of life is given by the company Biogena, which has built a 27,000 m² health world at the foot of the church hill. Our route also passes by there.

Directions

The starting point is Obergnigl stop in the city of Salzburg. Before heading towards Heuberg, a short detour to the adjacent Minnesheimpark is worthwhile. Particularly charming are the four female statues from the former palace park, symbolizing the seasons. The route crosses the federal road and the Alterbach, now follows the steeply climbing Heubergstraße and at the first fork turns right. After one and a half sunny, slightly ascending kilometers along Heubergstraße, path 810 towards Guggenthal turns right into the Graben and meets the unmistakable 'Biogena Health-World'. Passing the Koppl Gruberfeldsiedlung stop, the B 158 is underpassed, then the path leads right along the access road to the Guggenthal church. Return back to the stop and continue by bus 150, 151 or 155.
