Gerzkopf between Eben and Filzmoos

LATSCHEN, MOORS AND POWER SPOTS

The mountain lover is completely thrilled on the sun route to the green mountain. Regional bus 521 departs from Eben im Pongau station towards Filzmoos. The Schattbach stop is almost simultaneously the starting point for this somewhat more demanding hike. On the ascent, you pass several small moors, which are classified as ecologically very valuable. Not least for this reason, the 1728 m high Gerzkopf in the Salzburg Slate Alps was declared a European protected area in 2006.

After about 2.5 hours of hiking, a 360-degree panoramic view surprises you. Take your time to thoroughly admire the Tennengebirge, Dachstein massif, Gosaukamm, Niedere Tauern, and Bischofsmütze. Shortly before the summit, you cross a large mountain pine field. The scent is intoxicating! At home, you may already use the essential oil that positively affects the respiratory tract and lungs. For resting and snacking, the shepherd’s hut, about 10 minutes from the summit cross, invites you. If power spots fascinate you, then visit Filzmoos. This charming little place recently has 16 official spots of this kind. The “Schwarze Lacke” – which you pass when climbing the Gerzkopf – is one of them. It is a natural biotope and wonderfully reflects the mountain world. Each power spot fulfills a different purpose and therefore attracts very different people.

Directions

The starting point is the Eben Schattbach bus stop. Along the access road, it takes one hour to reach the last parking lot before a barrier. At the beginning, the further ascent (path 15) still follows the forest road, then trail 52 a branches off to the left into the beautiful high forest. This route follows the comfortably ascending ridge and after another half hour reaches probably the most impressive part of the hike. The forest becomes increasingly sparse, the path increasingly marshy, and then the picturesque Schwarze Lacke appears before the breathtaking mountain backdrop. From the strictly protected moor complex, it is another 15 minutes to the flat summit with the well-known bell frame. A truly heavenly place, where mountain masses are also celebrated from time to time. Since for bus travelers the endpoint does not necessarily have to be the starting stop, there are two variants for the descent via the Filzmoos district Neuberg. First, it goes back 10 minutes to the fork before the occasionally managed shepherd's hut (1608 m). There, a variant branches off to the left and leads over Gsengplatte and Schönleitenriedel to Neuberg. However, you also reach the access road to Neuberg by following trail 52 a as during the ascent, but staying left after the junction on this trail. The last kilometer down to the state road (Filzmoos turnoff Neuberg stop) runs along the access road.
