From Bergheim via Sandkuchl to Winding Estate
An ideal walk for the transitional season with wonderful views of the countryside and the menu at Winding Gut.
In certain weather conditions, the otherwise less-than-ideal asphalt roads offer a welcome alternative to ankle-deep forest paths. This is especially true when the route takes such an exciting loop as the one from the Roman settlements in Kerath to the charming country inn, Winding Gut. Along the way, fantastic panoramic views open up across the Berchtesgaden Alps and the lake district; on clear days, you can even see Munich’s 291-meter-high Olympic Tower to the northwest. The farm shop at the Holzbauer family farm then sharpens your focus on local treasures and is a reliable source for unique souvenirs. For a comfortable return trip to Bergheim, take bus number 110, which runs hourly from the center of Voggenberg.

Directions
From the Bergheim local train station, the path leads through the village, under the main road, and continues past the school on the left for 600 meters parallel to the B 156 until reaching the Fischach stream. Now, turn right and follow the renaturalized stream bank for 800 meters to the bridge. Cross the bridge and follow trail 62 to the site of a Roman villa in Kerath. Shortly after, the Holzbauernweg path branches off to the left, leading to the Holzbauer farm shop. We stay on the gently ascending trail 62, which branches off to the left in the Voggenberg settlement towards the gentle rise of Sandkuchl (615 m) and soon reaches the Winding Gut country inn. The short distance back to Voggenberg can be covered by following the same path over Sandkuchl, or alternatively, without any elevation gain, by taking the access road. From there, take bus 110 (Voggenberg town center stop) back to Voggenberg.
