Scenic route over Zwölferhorn and Pillsteinhöhe
From St. Gilgen with the gondola to Zwölferhorn and further over the Pillsteinhöhe. An easy hike for families with two summit crosses.
The easy, family-friendly hike from the mountain station of the Zwölferhorn cable car leads us over two summits (Zwölferhorn and Pillsteinhöhe). The path is mostly easy to walk but requires some sure-footedness near the summit crosses. The hike offers great views of the Salzkammergut with views of Wolfgangsee and Fuschlsee, Tennengebirge, and the Dachstein in the distance. Except for the paths to the summit crosses, the hike is pram-friendly and can be easily walked from spring to autumn.
Before the descent with the cable car, we can enjoy a stop at the “Arnikahütte” or “Das Zwölfer”.

Directions
The route starts at the bus station in St. Gilgen, from where we first head to the Zwölferhorn cable car. With the Zwölferhorn cable car, it then goes gently up to the mountain station on the Zwölferhorn with a fantastic view of Wolfgangsee. From here we reach the first summit cross on Zwölferhorn in a few minutes. From there we follow the Arnoweg along the ridge towards the southwest, passing the Arnikahütte and turning left at the first fork. We follow the path to the photo window "Zwölferhorn" with a particularly beautiful view of Wolfgangsee. From there we turn left again and follow the path to the second summit cross of our pleasure hike, the Pillsteinhöhe. From the summit cross, we take the path westward and initially continue along the hiking trail in a northern direction, which after a right turn leads back to the Arnoweg towards the mountain station of the Zwölferhorn cable car to the east.
