Show tunnel with narrow-gauge railway in Mühlbach

Temporarily closed

Experience the miners’ lives up close See how miners used to work underground.

The show tunnel was expanded with side shafts from an air raid shelter tunnel, which was excavated in 1942 and has a length of 120 m, through painstaking work by Mathias Haingartner and many helpers, and was opened to Barbara in 1987. The show tunnel runs in a north/south direction across the Rohrmoos ridge at an altitude of 880 m. The northern portal is accessible via the Pfisterer bridge, which spans the Schrammbach. The southern portal is visible above the kindergarten. The slate rock is so stable that only at one point did the authorities require a wooden support against the mountain pressure (door frame bracing).
