The Way of the Cross in the Au district of Grossarl is a special place of tranquility, featuring St. Hubertus Chapel, the Stations of the Cross, and the Nativity Barn.

Deep in the forest in the Au district of Grossarl lies a special place of strength and tranquility: the Stations of the Cross by Georg Gruber, also known as “Maurer Schorsch.” Through painstaking attention to detail and great craftsmanship, he created an impressive complex here consisting of the Hubertus Chapel, five small chapels depicting the Stations of the Cross, and a nativity barn featuring a nativity scene set in an alpine landscape.

The Way of the Cross was created out of religious conviction and gratitude for a healthy, accident-free life and is considered Georg Gruber’s life’s work. The construction alone took about ten years. Since summer 2018, the Way of the Cross has been maintained by the tourist office Grossarltal. Three hiking trails, each taking about 40 minutes to walk, lead there. Admission is free. Please be quiet and respectful, and do not leave any trash behind.
