Fort Kniepass

Border experience with a view History, games and action come together at Fort Kniepass: with its adventure trail, giant slide and open-air arena, the old border fortress is a modern excursion destination for the whole family – all year round.

Fort Kniepass in Salzburg’s Saalachtal valley is an experience for young and old that is open all year round. Once mentioned as a medieval border post “Chniepoz”, the fortress was expanded into a defensive structure in 1621 during the Thirty Years’ War – without ever being involved in combat. Today it has been revived as Fort Kniepass and opens up an exciting chapter in its history.

An adventure trail with 12 interactive play stations explores “borders” in a playful way – historically, politically and personally. The absolute highlight: the longest and highest tube slide in western Austria, which provides action and excitement. In addition, an open-air arena offers space for events and group activities.

The fort boasts easy accessibility, free parking, guided tours and regional cuisine – an ideal destination for families, school classes, club outings or culture-loving explorers.

Experience a fortress that moves – in the past, present and with a view of what is yet to come.
