At the Rauriser Talmuseum, you explore the history and everyday life of the Rauris Valley in a vivid and engaging way. Housed in the historic Gewerken building, dating back to 1563, the museum brings together mining history, local traditions and rural life under one roof.
Across 17 exhibition rooms, you’ll find a wide range of original objects telling the story of former gold mining, club and mountain culture, and the lives of the people who shaped the valley. You’ll learn why the Rauris Valley became known as the “golden valley of the Alps”, how gold mining influenced the region, and what r ole important figures such as Ignaz Rojacher played. Particular highlights include the mineral exhibition, which showcases the natural treasures of the region, and the Sonnblick room. Here, the story of the Sonnblick Observatory comes to life, from its construction to its role as Europe’s highest weather station. Early skiing history, regional customs and traditional farming life add even more depth to the visit.
The museum offers a lively insight into a valley shaped by gold, mountains, knowledge and tradition.
