It is known that a moor bath is healing, but what about moor beer, moor bread, or a whole moor menu? You’ve never heard of those? Then it’s high time for a trip to Anthering just outside Salzburg. Here, Sonnen Moor processes the 8,000-year-old “black gold” in an environmentally friendly and handcrafted way. Meanwhile, the range of products for internal and external use has grown: from bitter spray against sweet cravings to moor spelt whole grain noodles that give pasta dishes an exotic touch. In the lovingly designed moor and herb experience world, opened in 2018, you can take a behind-the-scenes look. The wallpaper even smells of herbs here. Old devices and a showcase into the modern production rooms complete the exhibition experience. But it is not just Sonnen Moor alone anymore that relies on the natural factor in Anthering: at the Schiefer upholstery workshop, you can get moor cushions, the Schmidhuber bakery focuses on the combination of moor and baked goods, and the Ammerhauser restaurant cooks with moor. The moor beer of the Raggei-Bräu brewery is also served here. Brewed on the full moon night, it comes across like a mystical magic potion, and if you want to see your children happy, end the family outing at the swing trail.

From Anthering train station, it is about a half-hour walk to the moor and herb experience world. The swing trail for little hikers is also accessible from the train station and the town center.

You can reach Anthering from Salzburg either by the local train S1 or by the regional bus line 111. The starting point for both hikes is the center of Anthering.
