Forest bathing on the Almerberg
Between Oberalm and Puch rises the inconspicuous Almerberg (726 m), which impresses with its diverse forests at any time of the year.
The Almerberg is an ideal destination both for fresh green spring days and for the golden autumn with rustling leaves. The focus is less on beautiful viewpoints, although many do open up again during the descent. The fascinating thing about the Almerberg is undoubtedly the forest – both calming and exciting at the same time. Take a deep breath, listen in, and be glad that such retreats exist. The two endpoints Oberalm and Puch also offer plenty to marvel at. Both places are characterized by churches, which in their own way are quiet retreats for inner renewal. A refueling station for the curious and at the same time a shopping opportunity for the environmentally conscious is the agricultural vocational school Winklhof in Oberalm (farmers’ market Wed 4 – 6 pm, Fri 1 – 5 pm). At the end point in Puch, the Roman milestone in front of the church reminds that there has been busy traffic here for 2000 years. There is plenty to see, feel, and hear during these two and a half hours.

Directions
From the bus stop village center in Oberalm, the route leads a few meters towards Hallein, then left along Kirchenstraße slightly uphill – the Winklhof school is located a short distance on the left. Our path leads past the church and the tennis courts straight ahead over the motorway to the Wiesenhof riding center and there turns sharply right into Egglgutweg. About 200 meters further above begins the marked forest trail 15 “Almerberg”. Either along the forest road or via shortcuts, the route leads in about three quarters of an hour to a saddle, from which the Almerberg lies 10 minutes on foot to the right. There are no views, but there is an artistically constructed stone oval with a small summit cross inside. Back at the saddle, the descent follows path 15 to the right to Scharten farm and then along the driveway to the left (path 17, Puch). After 1 km, route 17 turns left into Oberschatteinweg, passes a farm with a farm dog, a romantic chapel, and above the quarry, and meets a goods path in the valley floor. To the left, the path leads back to Oberalm, to the right it goes significantly shorter to Puch to the municipal office bus stop (left).
