From Anif over Eichet into the city of Salzburg
On the trail of Maestro Karajan, a quiet approach from the south into the city of Salzburg.
Music is in the air. The hike follows Karajanstraße past the home of the great conductor to an experience farm where poultry, wool pigs, goats, and guinea fowl feel audible and visible well. Soon follow two of the best-known inns south of the city, the Pflegerwirt and the Mostwastl, before continuing along lonely paths through the moss of Eichet to the Almkanal. Fascinating along the riverside path are the gnarled pollarded willows, which, besides their bizarre appearance, are also a valuable habitat for rare beetles. At the end of the route, a recently erected cross path awaits along the Neukommgasse. It runs just from the unfortunately no longer existent home of the last Salzburg executioner Franz Joseph Wohlmuth (1739 – 1823) to “Zur Hölle,” a popular tavern on the opposite side of the street. Very close is the trolleybus stop Kommunalfriedhof.

Directions
From the Anif bus stop, the path leads a few meters slightly uphill past the Friesacher businesses, turns right before the municipal office, and then follows Herbert-von-Karajanstraße for 1.3 km to a junction at Zauner farm to the left. At the next intersection, there is a magnificently grown deciduous tree; here the route turns right and leads past the Erlebnisbauernhof to the Plegerbrücke inn. Along Pflegerstraße, it goes 300 m to the junction "Gasthaus Mostwastl." We stay on Mostwastlweg until Kneisslweg branches off to the right. After 1.5 km, Sternhofweg is crossed, our route continues straight ahead past the Thausing nursery and a soccer field, meeting Goldschneiderhofweg. This leads right to Almkanal, which we follow to the left up to Nissen bridge. Slightly displaced on the right side, Neukommgasse branches off, leading us to the endpoint, the Kommunalfriedhof stop.
