Fuschl – Ellmau – Eibensee

THE DWARFS AT THE RUMINGMÜHLE IN FUSCHL ARE THE WELCOME COMMITTEE, THEN IT GOES WITH A STEEP ASCENT THROUGH BEAUTIFUL MIXED FORESTS UP TO THE MYSTERIOUS CRATER LAKE

Of course, there are shorter paths to the idyllic Eibensee than the one through the high-valley-like Fuschl district of Ellmau. This route takes just under four hours; the direct ascent from the Kleiner-Kapelle (stop St. Gilgen Pöllach) takes 50 minutes. But the Ellmaustein-Eibensee circular route no. 13 leads to many extraordinary points, making the time fly by. Mainly forest and service roads are used, with two steeper ascents providing rapid altitude gain in between. The wooded circuit is ideal for hot summer days, but then it also pays off to bring along the necessary swimwear, as the Eibensee reaches surprisingly high temperatures despite the almost 1,000 meters of elevation. An alternative, also very water-rich experience paradise for smaller children is the short, 45-minute route from Fuschl to the Rumingmühle and back through the charming dwarfs’ forest.

Directions

From the bus stop Fuschl town center, the path leads left past the parsonage, crosses the highway underpass, first encounters a Kneipp station, then a herb garden, and shortly thereafter is surrounded by a bunch of funny dwarfs at the Rumingmühle. The dwarf path branches off to the left; path 13 initially continues straight along the creek and only turns left into the rising hillside forest in the open valley floor. On the east side of the ridge descending from Ellmaustein, our route crosses the highway and passes the Kleiner-Kapelle, following the steep, sometimes muddy Eibensee trail 13b. Here, with the nearby bus stop St. Gilgen Pöllach (on the right), there is the first option to return to Fuschl. The dilapidated Eibenseealm stands at the highest point of the loop after a sweaty 45 minutes; shortly after, trail 13b branches off downwards to the still well-camouflaged Karsee on the right. Pleasant bays and also a small tent-like wooden shelter await at the Eibensee. The further route runs along the east shore and then crosses the Wildmoos high moor, following the 3.5 km long Dragon path down to the highway. On the left is the stop Fuschl Abzw. Eibensee, a direct boarding option, or the path continues 15 minutes further into the town of Fuschl.
