The fastest route to this destination

Ski tour from Bad Dürrnberg to Roßfeld

Best reachable by bus 41, relatively snow- and completely avalanche-safe, and on the summit you are guaranteed to meet old acquaintances. Let’s go to the Roßfeld!

Already the ride in the new electric buses, which have been quietly buzzing to Dürrnberg for some time instead of the old diesel buses taken over from the Vienna transport company, makes the ski tour trip to the Roßfeld (1538 m) worthwhile. During the week the destination is served hourly, on Sundays and holidays the frequency is somewhat lower. The Roßfeld, or also the shorter ascent to the Zinkenkogel (1336 m), are particularly popular city-near destinations even when the snow conditions are either too sparse or too tense. The signposted ascent (please do not deviate!) mainly runs along the edge of the slopes or uses safe forest roads in the woods. There are nice places to stop both at Zinkenkogel and at Roßfeld.

Directions

From the bus stop Bad Dürrnberg Zinkenlift valley station, continue along the road a few meters downhill to the large parking lot on the right. The sign for the ski tour ascent is impossible to miss, the trail stays left, runs a few meters along the driveway, then crosses out onto the open slope and reaches the downhill road after a short steep section. Follow this now flat to the left until after 500 m the signposted ascent leads to the right through the forest to the east slope. The trail to the Zinkenkogel branches off steeply to the right at the edge of the slope, the one to the Roßfeld crosses the open slope, dips back into the forest and meets the Roßfeld downhill run. According to the signage, the ascent runs out onto the initially flat ridge and heads along the left edge of the ski slope, steepening towards the summit cross at the end. Descent same as ascent.
