The Marble Route of Adnet

SPORT AND PLAY BETWEEN THE QUARRIES OF THE MARBLE VILLAGE

Visitors to the parliament in Vienna know it from the column hall there. In Munich, Bavaria, the monolith of the Mariensäule is made from the noble, reddish stone. But you can of course visit “Adneter Marmor” where it comes from: in the rugged quarries around the community of 3,500 inhabitants near Hallein. The Adnet Marble Route, which leads on a two-hour route through the surrounding forests, is also well suited for inexperienced hikers. Still, it’s worth putting on sports shoes. Besides the ancient quarries where marble was already mined in Roman times, you will now also find an outdoor park with fitness equipment and even a Kneipp facility. Children can demonstrate their skills climbing, jumping, exploring caves, and building “Stoanamandl” at various stations and then claim a reward for their effort. After so much excitement, a visit to the museum is just right. In Adnet, a dedicated exhibition deals with the marble stone. And here you will learn that Adnet marble is actually not marble at all. As colorful limestone, it certainly gains a few new fans after this beautiful excursion …
