Water Paradise Salzburg
CRYSTAL-CLEAR EXPERIENCE IN THE HEART OF THE CITY OF SALZBURG
A dive into the green-blue water? The Salzburg Almkanal makes it possible! The impressive stream, which is directed from the Königssee Ache before St. Leonhard into a constructed canal leading directly to Salzburg, offers many walking options. With trolleybus line 5 you travel from Salzburg main station to Birkensiedlung and from there stroll along the romantic waterway directly towards the city center. You will be amazed: besides local and tourist bathing guests along the canal, you come across an artificially created standing wave where enthusiastic surfers gather both in summer and winter. Truly exhilarating is the flow of the clear emerald-green water! The path along the canal leads from Birkensiedlung through Gneis to Leopoldskron to the romantic Leopoldskroner Weiher, home to ducks and fish. With this Almkanal, Salzburg has one of the oldest active water and energy systems. Even the Augustiner Bräustübl draws energy from the Königssee water. Ambitious hikers can follow the course of the canal already from St. Leonhard via Grödig, Gneis, Leopoldskron into the city. Eventually, the water flows in different branches into the Salzach.
