LAMMERKLAMM IN SCHEFFAU

It roars loudly and unyieldingly. The Lammer, the raging mountain stream, is stronger than rock and carves its way through the mystical gorge from the Ice Age. Water power, play of light and shadow – all this can be found by hikers and adventurers in the Lammerklamm in Scheffau. The “Klamm”, a natural monument since 1978, has become known as a sparkling natural spectacle. On foot, you explore the impressive slot valley, which is almost one kilometer long and about 20 meters deep, via secured paths and trails. The first part, the “dark gorge,” is the most varied section of the hike and shows how water has steadily and relentlessly eaten its way into the rock over centuries. Along well-secured trails, the path then leads back again. A bridge crosses a narrow point, after which you reach the other side of the gorge. Shortly thereafter, an attractive “point of view” offers a beautiful view of the Tennengebirge. Hungry and thirsty after these impressions? On the last downhill meters, you come directly to the cozy country inn Lammerklause. A highlight for little explorers is the legend “The Lammerklamm, a special love lock from long ago.” Signs along the hike bring to life the story of mermaids, giants, dwarfs, and love.
