Easy hike near Henndorf am Wallersee on well-maintained paths with several opportunities to rest and swim.
Henndorf am Wallersee is an ideal afternoon excursion near Salzburg. The varied route leads through a charming landscape surrounding the largest lake in the Salzburg Alpine foothills. Due to its shallow depth, Lake Wallersee warms up quickly in summer and is perfect for swimming. Expansive meadows, rolling hills, and the terminal moraines of the former Würm Glacier characterize the landscape and give the region its distinctive charm. The starting point of the tour is the Henndorf town center bus stop. After crossing the main road and the Grabenbach stream, the route leads to the right onto Kirchenstraße (Church Street). At the fork in the road, follow the Doktor-Max-Gmachl-Weg (Doctor Max Gmachl Trail) and then turn right again towards the lake. The path initially continues straight ahead for some time along field paths, past meadows and small hamlets. At the hamlet of Fenning, the route continues to the right towards the shore. Once at the lake, follow the promenade to the Fenninger Spitz campsite. From there, the route leads briefly through a wooded area before continuing along field paths towards Galgenholz (Gallows Wood). At the hamlet of Gumersil, make a U-turn and continue the route via Haberg. From there, it's only a few minutes back to the town center.
