A special place of energy and views: at Naglköpfl you enjoy sweeping panoramas while discovering traces of the region’s Celtic past.
High above the Salzach Valley lies Naglköpfl – a place where nature, history and a unique atmosphere come together. From here, wide views open across the surrounding mountains and the valley below, a landscape that has been inhabited for thousands of years.
Archaeological finds suggest that people already lived here during the Bronze and Hallstatt periods, mining copper in the region. At that time the river “Isonta” – today’s Salzach – flowed through the valley and even gave its name to a Celtic tribe, the Ambisontes.
Today, Naglköpfl is considered a special place of energy and tranquillity. A small chapel adorned with four sacred figures adds to the calm, almost mystical character of the site and invites you to pause and take in the scenery. Just below, along the cultural landscape trail, a historic timber slide recalls the traditional craft and hard work of the region’s former woodworkers.
