Discover the link between medieval mining and Gothic art at the Bergbau & Gothic Museum in Leogang.

At the Bergbau & Gothic Museum in Leogang, you step into a fascinating period when mining and art were closely connected. Set within the historic buildings of the former mining village of Hütten, the museum reveals how the wealth generated from mining led to the creation of remarkable Gothic artworks.

Across more than 1,000 square metres of exhibition space, you’ll find high-quality collections and changing exhibitions featuring objects from across Europe. Artworks, craftsmanship and historical artefacts illustrate the flourishing mining era of the Salzburg region and bring this time vividly to life. The museum not only presents history but also makes it tangible: in a restored blacksmith’s workshop and creative studios, traditional crafts can be experienced first-hand. The museum complex includes several historic buildings, such as the medieval Thurnhaus and the Gewerkenhaus, which are themselves part of the story. It is complemented by St. Anna’s Chapel with its rare altar and other authentic locations of former working life.

The result is an impressive place where art, history and craftsmanship come together, making the past truly tangible.
