At Museum Schloss Ritzen in Saalfelden, you embark on a varied journey through the region’s history – from the earliest traces of human settlement to more recent times. The museum brings together archaeology, everyday life and remarkable collections, offering a vivid insight into the development of the Saalfelden basin.

The exhibition begins with early history, featuring finds from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. Important sites such as the Biberg are highlighted, along with the famous Celtic deer figurine, which provides a glimpse into ancient craftsmanship and beliefs. Another focus is on traditional rural life. Historic living spaces, including an original smoke kitchen, illustrate how people once lived, cooked and worked. These are complemented by displays on craftsmanship, traditions and local culture.
