Along the Salzach from Bruck to Kaprun

An easy river hike suitable for all seasons and any weather, which shortly before Kaprun turns into an imaginative movement trail.

Until the High Middle Ages, the eponymous bridge in the town of Bruck was the only possibility to cross the Salzach over a long distance. Back then, the river was not as calmly flowing as it is now after regulation, but a strongly meandering mountain stream that often overflowed its banks. However, shortly before Kaprun, the route comes into motion. 24 stations with over 70 devices invite you to test your own fitness, as well as dexterity and mobility. Of course, the fun factor is not neglected at the consistently family-friendly stations. The mighty Kaprun Castle is only a long stone’s throw away; the detour to this medieval stronghold is definitely worthwhile before taking the reliably operating bus back.

Directions

From the station in Bruck an der Glocknerstraße, the path leads into the charming town center and now follows the Tauern cycle path signage. Before the trail continues to the Salzach, an orchard alley calls attention to the variety of native fruit varieties. A 2.5-kilometer stretch along the Salzach follows, until shortly after the new bridge the motor skills fun trail branches off to the left. After one kilometer, on the left side, the blue-signed „Kapruner Aussichtsrunde“ points to the worthwhile detour to Kaprun Castle. From there, either directly via Schlossstraße into the town center, or back to the movement trail and then following it to Kaprun. The bus stop „Maiskogelbahn Talstation“ is located on the right side after the bridge.
