CARILLON, VOICE AND SONG
The S1/S11 of the Salzburg Local Railway takes you on a journey through the charming Flachgau landscape directly to Arnsdorf from Salzburg main station in just under half an hour. A short 20-minute walk leads to the village center. On Christmas Eve, heavenly sounds ring out here, and the famous Christmas carol “Silent Night! Holy Night!” enchants its visitors as a carillon. A delight for music lovers! Afterwards, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Arnsdorf, which Franz Xaver Gruber shaped for 21 years as a teacher and organist. The Silent Night Museum is located in the “Gruber School,” the oldest still fully operational elementary school in Austria. Are you perhaps also a fan of the incomparable voice of director and moderator Axel Corti? His grave is located just below the north side of the church tower in the cemetery of Arnsdorf. Few could tell stories and everyday observations like him. Older generations may still remember his legendary radio show “The Silencer.” Michael Haydn, younger brother of Joseph Haydn, frequently visited the then priest and the two chaplains of Arnsdorf at the beginning of the 19th century. Together, they contributed greatly to the development of four-part male singing during their musical singing sessions.
